Edsel II Named Dir. Emeritus of Ford Foundation
| |||
The Director Emeritus designation is reserved for members of the HFCC Foundation
Board who have served at least four terms; have exhibited distinguished service
and exceptional leadership both as an HFCC Foundation director, but also in the
corporate and civic community; and whose involvement and leadership have
resulted in significant charitable support for the Foundation and its
initiatives.
“Edsel B. Ford II was unanimously recommended by the Foundation directors and
unanimously approved by the HFCC Board of Trustees,” said Talamonti.
“Director Emeritus status is ‘good for life,’ so we look forward to Edsel’s leadership and wise counsel for many years to come,” said Dr. Gail Mee, president of HFCC.
In addition to his 12 years of service on the HFCC Foundation Board, Ford
assumed a leading role in the College’s “Building Futures Campaign,” a multi-year fundraising initiative. He also helped establish the HFCC Henry
Ford II Honors Scholarship Program, which is one of the nation’s leading community college honors curricula, enrolling approximately 75
students.
“I am honored to be the first Director Emeritus of the Foundation,” Ford commented. “I admire the students at Henry Ford Community College, both their work ethic and
dedication to their studies.
“I know that many HFCC students are the first in their families to go to college
and Cynthia and I appreciate being able to help. I look forward to remaining active and supportive of Henry Ford Community
College students in the years ahead.”
An alumnus of Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., and the Harvard Business
School Program for Management Development, Ford is named after his grandfather,
Edsel B. Ford, the second president of Ford Motor Company. He is the son of
longtime Ford Motor Company president, CEO, and board chairman Henry Ford II
and Anne McDonnell Ford. He and his wife, Cynthia have four children.
Ford has been a member of the Ford Motor Company Board of Directors since 1988.
He is a retired vice president of Ford, as well as a former president and chief
operating officer of Ford Motor Credit Company.
He and his family’s other charitable and community interests include the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation, the Salvation Army, Children’s Hospital of Michigan, and many others.
